AUSTRALIAN GLOBAL TALENT VISA PROGRAM

GLOBAL TALENT VISA PROGRAM

The Global Talent Visa Program, also known as the Global Talent Independent Program, is a streamlined visa pathway for highly skilled professionals to work and live permanently in Australia.
Australia is after the brightest and best global talent to work in seven future-focused sectors. The program is designed to help grow our innovation and tech economies. This will create opportunities for Australians by transferring skills, promoting innovation, and creating jobs.
Australia is also a lifestyle destination, and one of the most prosperous, safe and culturally diverse countries in the world. Australia offers opportunities for innovation, with strong trading links and a business-friendly regulatory approach. Through the program, talented individuals will be given permanent residency to make their new lives in Australia.
In 2022-2023 there are 5,000 places available under the GTI program.
Key Requirements
Age
You can be any age to apply for this visa.
If you are 55 years or older when you apply, you must be of exceptional benefit to the Australian Community.
English
Applicants aged 18 or over, must have functional English. You must pay an extra charge, called the second instalment, if you do not have functional English.
Global Talent Sector
To be eligible to apply for the Global Talent Visa Program under the 858 Global Talent Visa, you must be highly skilled in one of the 10 target sectors.
Be Internationally Recognised
Your achievements must be exceptional and outstanding.
You must have been prominent in this field in the past 2 years.
Be of Benefit to the Australian Community
You must contribute to the nation as a whole.
Have the ability to establish yourself in Australia
You must be able to find work in your field in Australia, or become independently established in your field in Australia.
High Income Threshold
You should have the ability to attract a Salary at or above the Fair Work High Income Threshold of AUD167,500. This figure is adjusted annually on 1 July.
Be Nominated
You must be nominated to apply for this visa. Your nominator must also meet criteria by Department Home Affairs.
Meet Health Requirement
You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet health requirement.
Meet Character Requirement
You and family members aged 16 years and over who apply for the visa with you must meet our character requirement.

ELIGIBILITY
To be granted a visa under the Global Talent Visa Program, a candidate must be highly skilled in one of the following 10 target sectors. They will also need to be able to attract a salary that meets the high income threshold.

High-Income Threshold
​
Candidates should have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work high income threshold of AUD167,500. This figure is adjusted annually on 1 July.
In assessing this, the Department of Home Affairs will consider:

current salary has shown through payslips or a contract, or
-
future job offers outlining remuneration, or
-
recent PhD in the target sectors

Nominator Requirements
As part of the application, an applicant must be nominated by an eligible Australian individual or organisation with a national reputation in the applicant’s field. The nominator will endorse the applicant’s achievements and international standing. Nominator is not required to provide applicant with employment in Australia.

Global Talent Requirements
To be eligible to apply for the Global Talent Visa Program under the Global Talent visa, individuals must:

prove they are internationally recognised with evidence of outstanding achievements

still be prominent in their field of expertise in the past two years
-
provide evidence that they would be an asset to Australia, in their area of expertise
-
have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in their field
-
have a recognised organisation or individual in Australia endorse them as global talent, in the same field as the applicant
Candidates must meet a high standard and show an exceptional track record of professional achievement. This may include senior roles, patents, professional awards and international publications and memberships.

Places are also available to students who can demonstrate their exceptional talent and international recognition.
