Business Innovation Stream

Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) Visa (subclass 188)

Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) Visa (subclass 888)

 

  • 188A is a provisional visa is for people with business skills who can operate a new or existing business in Australia. You must have a successful business career and a genuine desire to continuously own and manage a business in Australia. You have genuine attention to hold that investment for at least 2 years before applying for an 888A permanent visa.

  • You must be nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency. You can be either in Australia or overseas when you lodge your application.

​

  • You must score at least 65 on the points test.

​

  • You, your partner, or your partner combined must have total net business and personal assets of at least AUD$800,000. Your funds must be available to transfer to Australia within 2 years.

Key Requirements

Age
Be under 55. 
If you are aged 55 or older at the time of the invitation to apply for the visa unless the State or Territory government agency has determined your business will be of exceptional economic benefit.
English
Applicants aged 18 or over, must have functional English. You must pay an extra charge, called the second instalment, if you do not have functional English.
Point Test
You must score at least 65 points on the points test.
 
Be Invited
Be invited to apply for 188A and 888A Visas.
Be Nominated
You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government
agency before being invited to apply for 188A & 888A visa.
Personal and Business Assets 
You must prove that you, your partner, or you and your partner together, have a business and personal assets with a net value of at least AUD$800,000. Your funds must be available to transfer to Australia within 2 years of the Department of Home Affairs' granting the 188A visa for you.
Have a Successful Business Career
You must have a successful business career and a genuine desire to continously own and manage a business in Australia.
Investment Funds
Your Investment funds must meet the certain business requirement from your nominated Australian State or Territory Government Agency.
Have Business Ownership
For 2 out of 4 fiscal years immediately before you receive an invitation to apply, you must have had an ownership stake in 1 or 2 businesses that had at least AUD$500,000 turnover in each of those 2 years.
Not have a history of involvement in unacceptable activities
You and your partner must not have a history of involvement in business or investment activities that are of nature that is not generally acceptable in Australia.
Meet Health Requirement
You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet health requirement. 
Meet Character Requirement
You and family members aged 16 years and over who apply for the visa with you must meet the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) character requirement.
